Power of a Postcard

Thanks to your efforts over the past several months, our state and federal elected officials received thousands of emails in their inboxes urging them to lead the way to tackle climate change and build a clean energy economy!  Whether you wrote letters, attended an event, or met with your legislators, you have made your voice heard.  It’s a great start, but with the legislative session just around the corner, we need you to keep up the great work.

Three of the 2009 Environmental Priorities are focused on tackling climate change and repowering Washington: capping climate pollution and investing in a clean energy economy; saving energy in our buildings; and creating transit-oriented communities. 1Sky Washington will also work to ensure $10 million to train Washington workers for family-supporting jobs in the growing clean economy.

This agenda is exciting and absolutely essential!  It’s also very ambitious. All four of the proposals will be very heavy lifts and it is going to take a massive amount of public will and action to pass them.

That’s where you come in. We need to demonstrate the strong public support for tackling climate change and building a clean energy economy to our legislators.  Our goal is to get at least 3,000 postcards signed from across the state by February 19th.  That’s the day that hundreds of folks like you will head to Olympia for Environmental Lobby Day to meet with their legislators face-to-face. What a perfect opportunity to send a strong message and deliver the postcards to every single legislator in the state!

In your postcard packet you’ll receive postcards, instructions, talking points, and a return envelope. All you need to do is get the postcards signed and mail them back to us.  And with the holiday season upon us, it’s the perfect time to bring your postcards along to your family dinner or holiday party!
