Turn a parking lot into a park! It may only be for one day, but one is better than none.
Each year park lovers and park advocates worldwide–more and more each year–create temporary parks in public parking spaces. This year, TPL-sponsored National Park(ing) Day* is on September 19. Each Park(ing) Day park is an all-volunteer effort and everyone is welcome to participate. Full information on National Park(ing) Day and on how to create a Park(ing) Day Park is on TPL’s website.
National Park(ing) Day is an opportunity to celebrate parks in cities and promote the need for more parks by creating temporary public parks in public parking spaces.

San Francisco art collective REBAR first created “PARK(ing)” in 2005 to re-imagine the potential of the metered parking space. In 2006, in collaboration with TPL, REBAR founded “PARK(ing) Day”: a global exploration of the creative potential of streets.
This sounds like a fun event. I haven’t found a Seattle contingent yet, but I’ll update as I find out more. If anyone is interested in organizing a Park(ing) Day event, please let me know! You can also connect with other interested folks on the National Park(ing) Day Organizers Facebook Group.
