It’s no secret Seattle is filled with artistic, passionate people. Take a walk in any of the city’s growing neighborhoods and you’ll notice yard art, murals painted on buildings, people dressed in eclectic clothes and music flowing from just around the corner. One of the newer fusions of Seattle’s creative pool is NFFTY, the National Film Festival for Talented Youth, which is vamping up for its second annual youth-produced film festival to be held March 28-30 at the SIFF Cinema and EMP|SFM.
NFFTY was formed in 2007 with the goal of bringing youth together. To enter the festival, NFFTY requires the filmmakers be 21 years old or younger. The submission deadlines for this years’ festival closed at the end of January, with the categories being feature, short, documentary, music video, animation and experimental.
The weekend is worth checking out—red carpet events, lounges, workshops and panel discussions round out the three-day event. Co-founder Jesse Harris explains his vision for the festival is that it becomes the “Sundance” for young filmmakers.
And he might not be that far off. The festival’s opening night is presented by Volvo Cars of North America and the sponsor list is growing. Not bad for a new organization founded by a 21-year-old and an 18-year-old!
More to come as the event grows nearer, but mark your calendar–March 28-30 at the Seattle Center. Support local youth and be amazed in the process.
