Just read an interesting Valentine’s kind of themed article from the NYT on couples where one eats meat and the other doesn’t:
It was a good article on how the couples compromised their favorite foods for love, but what really made me angry were the comments from readers. In particular those that said being vegetarian or vegan is a selfish choice to make. I really think what was missing from the article was WHY these people made the diet choices they did. It is my firm belief that you cannot eat meat and call yourself an environmentalist. Many of these people have given up eating meat because they realize how much they lessen their impact if they forgo it. Anyone who says that vegans and vegetarians are just picky eaters and are imposing their diets on themselves for selfish reasons just doesn’t get it.
